Proposed RJ Legislation Goes to Committee on Valentine’s Day at 1:30pm

On Tuesday, February 14th 2017 at 1:30 pm there will be a hearing in the Colorado State Capitol in room 0114 on proposed restorative justice legislation. The House Judiciary Committee will hear testimony on the “RJ Communications bill” which can be viewed in the original draft form at http://leg.colorado.gov/bills/ hb17-1039.

Things have been moving fast and furious, as they do at the capitol with many stakeholders negotiating for changes to this draft. Representative Lee and others have worked very hard to advance confidentiality protections for participants in a restorative justice process and several other new provisions for restorative justice. If you are interested in attending the public hearing please get there early as parking near the capitol can be challenging.

Other bills relative to restorative justice include the continuation of the RJ Council and a provision reimbursing RJ Council members for their travel expenses to attend meetings. The later has had a vote of unanimous support in the committee hearing last week. Next, it will go to the House for a hearing. When we have more information we will post it on www.rjcolorado.org . Or you can always visithttp://leg.colorado.gov/bills and search restorative justice.
