Van Jones to host new CNN series focused on 'restorative justice'

CNN on Wednesday said political analyst Van Jones will host a series launching this month that offers "a rare glimpse into the restorative justice process" of those who have committed "a life-altering crime."

Jones, a former Obama administration official, will host the eight-part CNN original series known as "The Redemption Project."

"Through unique access to the U.S. prison system, this powerful series explores the human potential for redemption," CNN said in the announcement.

The series will premiere on April 28 at 9 p.m.

“I wanted to do The Redemption Project because I think we have lost our sense of grace and empathy and the capacity to forgive in our culture, at the highest levels,” Jones said in a statement. “This series is my attempt to put some medicine into our very sick system and to uplift people who are doing extraordinarily courageous things every day.”

The network also announced that "United Shades of America" with W. Kamau Bell will launch its fourth season following Jones's new series, airing Sundays at 10 p.m.

Bell's show won an Emmy for outstanding unstructured reality program in 2017 and 2018.
