RESTORATIVE JUSTICE EDUCATION PROGRAM FACILITATOR TRAINING

If you feel called to work with those in prison and are willing and ready to listen without judgment, while facilitating a process that develops insight, compassion and accountability this free training might be of interest.

Demand for the Restorative Justice Education Program (RJEP) offered by trained volunteer facilitators within the Colorado Department of Corrections (CDOC) is growing. Colorado Community Corrections is also expressing interest in the program. In order to meet this demand; potential volunteers are being recruited, screened, trained and supervised.

The RJEP initially modeled in Rifle, has gained momentum within CDOC. The program is now offered in Buena Vista Correctional Facility and Territorial Correctional Facility. A pilot project in Denver Women’s Facility has also occurred. RJEP is a modified version of Victim Offender Education Group (VOEG) initiated in California by the Insight Prison Project.

The following quote from a case manager at Rifle Correctional Center is an example of the unsolicited feedback we have received:
“RJEP provides opportunities for the offenders to tap into the pieces of their lives that they have been hiding from themselves and others. Being honest and open with themselves and the group is life changing for many...and they will openly tell you the impact that this has had on them. The work these men begin within the group seems to set in motion changes that will impact their futures.”

There is a current group of active volunteers here in Colorado who were trained and are supervised by the former Executive Director of Insight Prison Project, who now lives in Colorado. At the moment there are 6 seasoned facilitators and 4 facilitators in training seats. We are currently taking applications for 10 spots in each of the future trainings. After the training, new trainees will be working with a seasoned facilitator in the assigned prison.

Training Dates: Participants must commit to one three-day training session. Selected candidates will receive the training at no charge.
