I have been a criminal defense attorney for 22 years, been a board member of the Denver Center for Crime Victims and mediator in all manner of disputes. People who resolve disputes by way of conflict do not heal. Rather, the suffering only continues and frequently spreads to others. We as professionals -- lawyers, judges, victim advocates, etc., all too often escalate the conflict and add to the suffering. I believe we have an ethical duty to promote peaceful resolutions.
